Dying to Achieve.

Christy Henrich, a former gymnast, suffers a tragic death.

Christy Henrich was born on July 18, 1972 from Independence, Mo. She attended Fort Osage High School in Independence, but that was not her main focus . Christy was a competitive gymnast who trained with the Great American Gymnastic Express Club in Blue Springs, MO. In 1989, she won the silver medal in the all-round competetion at the US National Championsihps. But then, a judge told her that she did not have the proportions of a gymnast and had to lose weight. This comment alarmed her causing Christy to be stubborn. She did not take a healthy solution but turned to eating disorders: anorexia and bulimia.

Because of her eating disorders, she became frail and did not have the strength to excel in her sport. Eventually, her disorder crushed her dream of making the 1988 United States Olympic gymnastics team. and was asked to retire. She no longer had passion in life and became severely sick. She was sent to the hospital and got help but she soon went back to her unhealthy habits. Sadly, she died on July 26, 1994 from several organ failures. She was only 4'11" tall and weighed 47 pounds.

I find it depressing that she had devoted her entire life for something she was so passionate for and failed. But I understand the immense pressures she had to face as an athlete which obviously caused her eating disorders. On the brighter side, her experience can be a great example to other competitive athletes about the extremes of handling critiques and their health.

This was really interesting to read, but I think you should add some more details about the disorders themselves. It's crazy how one comment can turn someone's life around.

I'd give you a 97

I liked your article alot! I never knew that an opinion could affect someone so much. You should elaborate more on the disorders themselves, but I liked the way you described her career and her passion to do gymnastics. Good job! You get a 97!

woah 4'11" and 47 lbs! wow.

I loved reading your post, it has lots of background information on Henrich and I agree with you on the conclusion part, I think that it's sad too that she failed at something she worked and loved so much for. Adding some details on the disorder could help make your paper even better.

I give you 98.

This was a very interesting blog. Your description of the gymnast's life was fascinating, and I think a lot of people don't realize that anorexia is a psychological disorder, so good job on bringing that to everyone's attention. You could have gone just a little more into describing the disease, but other than that, great job. i give you a 99.

That was very interesting. It's sad how she she could have become even better if it weren't for this disorder. You could probably explain more vividly about her eating disorder.

Awesome study! It is very interesting and sad how a person's dream can be affected by someone else's comment. The only thing you need to improve on is explaining the disorder more. Good job! 98

This was very interesting to read about a famous icon who has had an eating disorder. I think your last comment is completely true, and you also did a great job describing the different effects of the disorder.

I was reading about her somewhere else and I think your blog is very interesting but it is sad to see that someone went to those lengths just for gymnastics. It would be good to add a little more on how people with anorexia and bulimia view themselves but besides that it was good.

47 pounds??? Oh man...this is very sad. I can't believe no one helped her? Someone had to have noticed. The coach's comment really got to her. She was comitted not only to her sport, but also to her disorder too. Always sad to see an athlete die early.

wow, it's amazing the impact one comment can have on a person. Very interesting story, but maybe include more details about the eating disorders.
